How Palworld breeding works

Every Pal has a hidden number called breeding power. The child is chosen from the two parents like this.

  1. Same species. Two Pals of the same species always produce that species.
  2. Special combinations. A short list of fixed pairs always gives a fixed child (mostly the elemental forms such as Ignis, Cryst, Lux, Noct, Terra, Aqua and Botan). They override the next rule. See special combinations.
  3. Breeding power average. Otherwise take the two parents’ breeding power, add them, add 1 and halve the result, rounding down. The child is the Pal whose breeding power is closest to that number.
  4. Pals that are never the result of rule 3. Some Pals (for example legendaries and some forms) can only come from rule 1 or 2.

When two Pals are equally close

Sometimes the target number sits exactly between two Pals. A tie-break is then needed. How this site resolves ties, and how far that has been verified, is explained on Data & accuracy.

Gender

Gender only matters for Katress + Wixen: a female Katress with a male Wixen gives Katress Ignis, while a male Katress with a female Wixen gives Wixen Noct.
